Marion Harth

d. May 30, 2009

Marion Jane Harth, 92, died Saturday, May 30, 2009 at her nephew's home in Apple Valley, where she had been residing. She was born January 19, 1917, in Red Wing, To Charles and Hattie (Gipford) Black. She graduated from Red Wing Central High School in 1933 and Teacher's Training in 1934. She taught at Welch school for 4 years. She married Milton Harth on June 28, 1938. Milton enlisted in the US Navy and served during WWII, at which time Marion worked at Honeywell in Minneapolis. They later owned and operated the Cannon River Inn, located in Welch, from 1946 until 1951 with the help of Marion's sister, Lillian and her husband Roy. After surviving 5years in the restaurant business, they bought a farm west of Welch and farmed until they retired in 1984. During the time on the farm, Marion took on a job running the school lunch program at the Vasa school for about 15 years. After retirement, Marion and her husband bought a home in St. Petersburg, Florida. She brought her love for roses and gardening with her to Florida--Milton even transported many trunks full of good old Minnesota soil for her flower gardens to flourish. Marion was a member of the Cross of Christ Lutheran Church and one of her many accomplishments were singing in the church choir for over 35 years.

Marion was preceded in death by her husband in 1994, a brother Donald Black and 2 sisters Letha Olson and Lillian Ryan.

Funeral service will be 4 p.m. Saturday, June 6, 2009 at the Cross of Christ Lutheran Church with Reverend Bob Albing officiating. Burial will be at the church cemetery. Visitation will be Saturday from 2 p.m.- 4 p.m. at the church. Arrangements handled by Mahn Family Funeral Home, Bodelson-Mahn Chapel. www.mahnfamilyfuneralhome.com
