Marilyn “Lyn” Back Galvin, 79, of Red Wing, passed away Sept. 26, 2020, at her home at Deer Crest. She was born Feb. 20, 1941, in Red Wing, to Fred and Dorothy (Turnhoffer) Back. She attended St. Joseph Catholic Grade School and graduated from Our Lady of Good Counsel Academy in Mankato, MN. After graduation, Lyn attended Rochester Jr. College and left MN to start her career in Washington D.C. She worked for Representative Albert Quie, of MN, Senator Al Gore, Sr. of Tennessee, and Representative Charlotte Reid of Illinois. She also worked for the Department of Justice for several years before returning to MN where she continued her career at Meyer Industries and then at Johnson Law Office. She also worked for Attorney Peder Hong and then went on to be Goodhue County Probate Registrar until her retirement.
Lyn was preceded in death by her parents and 2 grandsons, James & Jonathan Henderson. She is survived by her husband, Gerald Galvin; 2 sons, Robert (Marcy) Quinney of St. Augustine, FL and Jeffrey Quinney of Red Wing; 1 daughter, Mary Culver Toman (Paul) of Florida; 4 brothers, Bill (Pat) of Arizona, Richard (Ruth) of Red Wing, Tom (Caren) of Alabama and Tim (Joan) of Eagle Lake, MN; 2 sisters, Kathy (Tom) Soller of Oklahoma and Shelly (Ken) Smith of Red Wing; brother-in-law, Mike (Marsha) Galvin; sister-in-law, Sue (Dar) Reeck. Lyn was blessed with 4 surviving grandchildren, Tyler & Connor Quinney, Ashley Quinney Beane and Krista Schena; 5 great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
Lyn’s family would like to thank the staff at Deer Crest and Mayo Hospice for the excellent care she received and a special thanks to the staff in the Skyview unit, who were so caring and loving to Lyn. She loved every one of you.
Memorial service will be 11 a.m. Thursday, Oct. 1, 2020 at the Mahn Family Funeral Home with a visitation one hour prior. Masks are required and seating is limited. Interment will be at Calvary Cemetery. Memorials are preferred to Alzheimer's Association or Red Wing Mayo Clinic Hospice.
