Marilyn J. Riemersma age 74 of Zumbrota died Friday, October 9, 2009 at Saint Marys Hospital in Rochester. A memorial service is scheduled for Friday, October 16, 2009 at 3:00 PM at the Mahn Family Funeral Home - Larson Chapel in Zumbrota with Reverend Paul Roberts officiating. Burial will be at a later date. Visitation is Friday one hour prior to the service.
Marilyn Joyce Rober was born on January 27, 1935 in Beaver Creek, MN to Walter and Gertrude (nee Lowe) Rober. She grew up in several communities in Southwestern Minnesota. Marilyn completed her education at St. James High School. She started working as a waitress for her mother at the Boston Café in St. James. She worked at Tony Downs Processing in St. James and Collier Red Owl Grocery Store, where she worked as a cashier and in the meat department. She also worked part time at the St. James Municipal Liquor Store and Nelsons Furniture, while she was working at the Red Owl Grocery Store. Marilyn retired in 1994. In 1995 she moved to Zumbrota to be near her daughter. Marilyn enjoyed reading, jig saw and cross word puzzles, video games, crocheting and cross stitch, fishing vacations in northern Minnesota, chocolate, cashews and plum jelly. Marilyn made friends where ever she went. Marilyn is survived by her children: Gerad (Donna) Riemersma of Rochester, Glenn Riemersma of Sioux City, IA, Greg Riemersma of Tacoma, WA and Gail Riemersma of Lake City; five grandchildren: Jordon Riemersma, Kelsey Riemersma, Anastasha Tweedy, Alisa Tweedy and Matthew Riemersma; two brothers: Clifford (Annette) Reynolds of Lake City and James Reynolds of Fridley; half-sister: Charlene Stock of Rodgers, MN and special friend: Cleveland Raymond of Zumbrota. Marilyn was preceded in death by her parents and one brother: Bill Rober. Memorials are suggested to donor's choice.
