Marilyn Joan Bakke, 84, died on Thursday, December 8, 2016 at St. Crispin Living Community-The Villa. She was born to Ole and Grace (Johnson) Opsahl on May 4, 1932 in Red Wing and graduated from Red Wing High School in 1950. She attended Bethesda Hospital Nursing School and became a registered nurse. She married John Bakke on May 5, 1956 at First Lutheran Church in Red Wing. She worked at the Red Wing City Hospital from 1953 until its closing in 1967 and from 1969 until 1988, she worked at the Interstate Medical Center. She was extremely proud of her job as a nurse. Marilyn was steeped in family traditions especially at Christmas time. She was very proud of her home where everything was a neat as a pin and she enjoyed gardening and crocheting. A favorite pastime for Marilyn and John was going for a drive to enjoy the fall colors. She was an avid fan of her grandchildren's sporting events and attended despite the weather. She was a member of First Lutheran Church, Red Wing Area Seniors, past member of Toys for Tots and the Red Wing Area Food Shelf.
Marilyn is survived by her daughter, Sue (Jim) Gerdes; son, Tom (Katie) Bakke; four grandchildren, Josh (Jessica), Matt (Kirsten), Kiersten and Tanner; three great-grandchildren Noah, Zachary and Hanley with one baby girl expected soon. She was preceded in death by her husband and her parents.
Memorial service will be at 11 a.m. on Friday, December 16, 2016 at First Lutheran Church with Pastor Arthur Sharot officiating. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the church.
