Marietta E. Andrist, 81, of Rochester passed away Friday October 15, 2021 at Fairview Ridges Hospital.
Marietta E. Cochico was born February 17, 1940 in Tarlac, Philippines to Alfonso and Maura (Escalona) Cochico. She came to the United States in 1963 with a group of nurses, recruited by St. Mary’s Hospital. She attended University of St. Thomas in the Philippines to become an RN. She was married to Joseph Andrist on June 22, 1964. They lived in Rochester for 55 years, until moving to Eagan, to be in memory care near their daughter. Marietta retired from nursing after 40 years at St. Mary’s and the Mayo Clinic with a few years as Director of Nurses at the Rochester Health Care nursing home. She had a close-knit circle of friends, mostly filipinas who celebrated birthdays and went on cruises, favorite destinations the Caribbean and Hawaii. She and Joe loved to visit family in New York, and their son and grandchildren in Colorado. There was nothing she wouldn’t do for her grandchildren. She was able to visit her parents and family in the Philippines. She enjoyed cooking, especially filipino food for holidays. She had a green-thumb, with many tropical plants in her home. She loved playing Scrabble and cards, and was devoted to watching Survivor, Amazing Race and Dancing with the Stars. She took many pictures for scrapbooking, did numerous arts & crafts, embroidery, and crocheting. She was a woman that needed to stay busy cleaning or doing something. Known at work as the White Tornado, she was on the move and had a lot to get done. She was a devout Catholic, never missing Mass, her rosary, an extension of her arm. She said when she wasn’t doing anything else she’d be praying. Praying for her family and everyone she loved.
Marietta is survived by her children, Angela (Peggy Soma) Andrist of Eagan and Anthony Andrist of Colorado; grandchildren, Berkeley, Canyon, Davan and Becklin; sisters, Susan Borja, Virginia (Teddy) Tina both of New Jersey; nieces, nephews and other relatives. Marietta was preceded in death by her husband, Joseph; brother, Alfonso Cochico Jr., and parents.
