Marie Margaret Mattson

ROCHESTER - Marie M. Mattson, age 90, of Rochester, died Tuesday, June 7, 2016 at Golden LivingCenter - Rochester East.
Marie Margaret Eichhorst was born Jan. 2, 1926 on the family farm in Mount Vernon Township, Winona County, Minnesota to Richard and Verna (Milbrandt) Eichhorst. She graduated from Lewiston High School in 1943 and worked in the office of the Altura Creamery following high school. On March 1, 1948 she married Kleo "Vern" Mattson. The couple lived in Winona where Vern worked for the Railroad. Their son, Duane, was born there. They later moved to the Rochester, where Marie was a homemaker. In 1982, Marie began babysitting her grandson, David. She loved spending her days with him. Marie had a kind heart and possessed a wonderful memory. She enjoyed being with family, music, reading, and cross word puzzles. Vern died on July 12, 2014. Marie's family would like to extend their gratitude to the staff of Golden LivingCenter - Rochester East for the wonderful care she received over the past three years. Special thanks to Seasons Hospice for their visits and compassion during the last six months of her life. She felt very blessed by their presence in her life.
Survivors include her daughter, Mary (Norbert) Degenhardt of Rochester; daughter-in-law Peggy Mattson of Federal Way, WA; 4 grandchildren, Chris (Keri) Mattson of Tacoma, WA; Terry Mattson, and Mindy (Patrick) Kelly, both of Seattle, WA; and David Degenhardt of Rosemount, MN; great grandchildren, Grace, Anna, and Sage Mattson, and Kaylee Kelly; step grandchildren, Christine Armstrong of Blaine, MN; and Maria (Scott) Fakler of Columbus, MN; and step-great grandchildren, Taylor, Noah, and Nick Armstrong, and Ian and Jake Fakler. Marie was preceded in death by her husband Vern, her son Duane, 3 sisters, and 3 brothers.
As per Marie's wishes, a private graveside service will be held at Grandview Memorial Gardens in Rochester. Memorials are suggested to Seasons Hospice. Mahn Family Funeral Home - Rochester Chapel is in charge
