Rochester- A memorial service for Marie F. Adams will be held at 3pm Saturday at Mahn Family Funeral Home, Rochester Chapel with Father William Thompson officiating. Mrs. Adams, 88, of Rochester, died Wednesday (October 8, 2008) at Moores Elder Care in Rochester.
Marie Florence Adams was born May 21, 1920 near Brainerd, MN. She grew up in and graduated from the Owatonna State School in Owatonna, MN. Marie was a secretary at the Owatonna State School for six years. She was a co-owner of the Metro Stationary Store in St. Cloud, MN. Marie was a Selective Service employee for 14 years in St. Cloud. She was St. Cloud Business and Professional Woman of the Year in 1974. She was employed by the St. Cloud Veterans Administration until retirement. She retired to Phoenix, AZ until her illness and return to Minnesota. Marie loved sewing, fishing and gardening.
She is survived by two daughters, Yvonne (Gordon) Cariveau of Oronoco and Sharon (Neil) McPhee of Needham, Mass; two sons, Larry Whiteis of Bethel, MN and John Adams of Arlington, TX; two sisters, Bernice DesMarais of St.Cloud, MN and Marcella Roseland of Owatonna, MN. Other survivors include 12 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren and special birthday twin, Heddy Reed and former husband, Lou Kaiser.
Marie was preceded in death by two husbands, Lester Martin Whiteis I and Samuel R. Adams, a daughter (Sandra Kay Adams), a son Richard Adams and three brothers; Andrew, William and Leo Brown.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials to the Mayo Alzheimers Research Center.
