Marian G. Sandberg, age 92 of Zumbrota died on Tuesday, April 19, 2011 at the Zumbrota Health Services. A memorial service will be held on Friday, April 22, 2011 at 2:00 PM at Christ Lutheran Church in Zumbrota with Reverend Wayne Schoch officiating. Inurnment will be in Zumbrota Cemetery.
Marian Gertrude Olson was born on October 26, 1918 in Zumbrota to O. Adolph and Stella A. (nee Paulson) Olson. She spent her early years in Zumbrota before her family moved to Pine Island. She graduated from Pine Island High School in 1936. Marian attended and graduated Magna Cum Lauda from the University of Minnesota in 1940. After one year of teaching elementary school in Moose Lake, she married Warren J. Sandberg on November 20, 1941 in Santa Monica, CA. They lived in California while Warren served in the U.S. Army Air Corps. After his discharge they returned to Zumbrota. Warren became a partner in the Charles Olson Hardware & Furniture Co. and Marian helped at the store and was a homemaker. Marian served as Queen of the Zumbrota Centennial, held in 1956. Marian was a member of Christ Lutheran Church, where she sang in the choir. She enjoyed golfing, playing bridge, gardening, traveling and was an avid reader.
Marian is survived by her children, Eric (Jayne) Sandberg of Coralville, IA, Mary Meyer of Great Falls, MT and Stuart (Susan) Sandberg of McCordsville, IN; grandchildren, Chris (Amanda) Meyer of Portland, OR, Kirk Meyer of Great Falls, MT, Alexandra Sandberg and Rob Sandberg, both of McCordsville, IN. and great-grandson, Maxwell Meyer. Marian was preceded in death by her husband, Warren; parents; O. Adolph and Stella; brother, Stuart Olson and sister, Carol Suddendorf.
Memorials are preferred to Christ Lutheran Church or the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation.
Arrangements were with the Mahn Family Funeral Home - Larson Chapel in Zumbrota.
