Marian Cordes

Marian Ida Cordes, 89, of Red Wing, died Thursday, July 26, 2012, at the Mayo Health Systems- Red Wing Hospital. She was born on the family farm on Sept. 28, 1922 to Henry and Edna (Schafer) Abraham. She graduated from Lincoln High School in Lake City and in 1940, she married Ray Cordes at the Little Brown Church in Nashua, Iowa. During World War II, they lived in Vancouver, Washington, where Ray worked in the shipyards, and they later returned to Minnesota and lived in Red Wing. Marian had worked part time at JC Penny's and also at Ferrin's Furniture, though she greatly enjoyed being at home, being a homemaker and tending to her flower gardens. During the 1980's she and Ray moved to Arizona, and returned to live in Red Wing in 1985. Ray died in 2010. Marian's talents were many, as she was an expert at sewing, needlework, knitting, weaving, quilt making, Hardanger and other crafts. She also enjoyed reading and doing crossword puzzles. Marian was a long-time member of United Lutheran Church and had also been a member of a county homemaker's extension club.

She is survived by her daughter, Mary (Bryan) Hagen of Kenyon; 2 grandchildren, David Pederson and Robin Johnson both of Minneapolis; 3 great-grandchildren, Bunny, Darcy and Libby Johnson; brother, Lloyd (Joan) Abraham of Lake City; and 3 sisters-in-law, Fern Feindt of Red Wing, Robin (Dick) Burkard of Burnsville and Georgene Cordes of Apple Valley. She was preceded in death by her husband, Ray and 2 sisters, Jean Tilderquist and Muriel Albrecht.

Memorial service will be 2 p.m., Thursday, August. 2,2012 at United Lutheran Church with Reverend Steve Timm officiating. Burial will be at Oakwood Cemetery. Visitation will begin at 1:00 p.m. at the church.
