Marguerite "Peg" Lucille Weaver Etzel

Marguerite "Peg" Lucille Weaver Etzel, 95 of Red Wing, Minnesota, formerly of Moline, Illinois, died of colon cancer after a short illness on Friday, March 1, 2013 at Deercrest in Red Wing. She was born April 3, 1917 in Moline, Illinois, daughter of Frank John and Esther Louise (Wallentine) Kessel. She grew up and attended her schooling in Moline, Illinois. She attended business school and left to begin working at Royal Neighbors. She married Ellis Emory Weaver on May 20, 1937. Ellis was stationed in Washington D.C. in the Navy during WWII and she began working with the Navy Research Lab for an officer. Later in life, she worked for Barnett's Fireplace in Moline. Ellis died February 14, 1981. Peg married Samuel Etzel on November 29, 1985. Sam died on May 10, 1995. Peg moved up to Red Wing about 8 years ago where she resided at the Downtown Plaza for 7 year and she spent the last year of her life at Deercrest. Peg was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Moline, Eastern Star, and First Lutheran Church in Red Wing. In her spare time, she enjoyed traveling extensively, visiting all 50 states plus, England, Ireland, Greece, and Russia. She also was an avid reader, enjoyed Talking Books in later life and she loved spending time with her great grandchildren. She and her longtime grade-school friend, Marge Brooks, enjoyed going to Drum and Bugel Corp Competitions and Elder Hostels together. Peg was a special lady who lived by her faith and always put her family and friends first.

She is survived by her children, Jane (Jon) Oakleaf of of Moline, IL John (Karen) Weaver of Red Wing, and Dale (Shirley) Weaver of Libertyville, IL; two step children, Gerald (Sandy) Etzel and Linda (Harold) Wolf; four grandsons, Brian, Brad, Colin and Corey; four step grandchildren, Michael and Brian Wolf, Summer Volk and Greg Etzel; six step great grandchildren, Ethan, Erik, Ariana, Marley and Mya; and five step great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by both of her husbands and parents.

A private family memorial service will be held in the spring. Burial will be at Rock River View Cemetery in Moline, IL. Memorials are preferred to the Multiple Sclerosis Organization of America, Red Wing Hospice, and Talking Books.
