It is with great sadness that we announce that our mother, grandmother, and friend, passed away suddenly at her home on Sunday, January 3, 2021. Margaret “Marge” Ann Fagerlund was born October 8, 1950, in Redding, California, to Kenneth and Maxine (Kuhry) Janes. Her family moved to Dickinson, North Dakota, where she graduated from high school and went on attend Dickenson State University, receiving a bachelor’s degree in elementary education. On December 27, 1979, she was united in marriage to Robb Fagerlund and they moved to Red Wing, a place that became their home and Marge was quite proud of living in “Pretty Red Wing”. While their children were younger, Marge stayed at home, but she eventually returned to teaching, first as a pre-school teacher at Bluff View in Lake City and then as a 1st grade teacher at Sunnyside in Red Wing. Marge loved children, and it wasn’t out of the ordinary for her to stay in touch with the students and their families she had throughout her career. After her retirement in 2019, she was able to focus on her own children’s children, her 11 grandbabies—they were the center of her world. But when she wasn’t with her family, she spent some quality time with her book club friends “The Florida Girls”.
Marge will be deeply missed by her four children, Beth (Jeremy) Schultz of Mora, MN, Bob (Liz) Fagerlund of White Bear Lake, Jeff (Chelsey) Fagerlund of Boise, ID and Jill (Justin) Colbert of Iowa City, IA; 11 grandchildren, Sawyer, Boone, Oliver, Lucy, Cohen, Finn, Jack, Willa, Brooks, Teddy and Welles. She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband, Robb in 2010.
Due to the current pandemic and health concerns, a service for Marge will be held later this year, when it is a safer time for all of us to gather and remember her. Memorials are preferred to the Red Wing Environmental Learning Center (ELC). Arrangements are being handled by Mahn Family Funeral Home, Bodelson-Mahn Chapel. Online condolences may be sent to the family at www.mahnfamilyfuneralhome.com
