Margarethe P. "Margaret" Thoreson, age 107, of Zumbrota, formerly of Wanamingo died on Friday, December 30, 2011 at the Zumbrota Health Services. The funeral service will be on Saturday, January 7, 2012 at Wanamingo Lutheran Church in Wanamingo at 2:00 PM with Pastor Christopher Culuris officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Visitation will be on Saturday from 12:30 to 2:00 PM at the church
Margarethe Petrine Romo was born on September 28, 1904 in Wanamingo Township, Goodhue County, MN to Ludvig and Anna (nee Henning) Romo. She grew up in the Aspelund area, attended country school and graduated with her Normal Teachers Certificate from the Red Wing Seminary School. She taught for twelve years at several country schools in the Wanamingo/Kenyon area. On September 3, 1935 she married Adolph Thoreson at her parent's farm. They farmed near Wanamingo and Margarethe took care of raising the chickens. They moved into Wanamingo in 1978. Adolph died on July 2, 1998. Margarethe was a member of Wanamingo Lutheran Church, where she was active in the ladies aid and taught Sunday school. Margarethe did volunteer driving in the Wanamingo area for many people and was a 4H Leader and member of a Women's Extension Group. Margarethe loved to sew and enjoyed making crafts for her grandchildren.
Margarethe is survived by her children, Theona (William) Lewison of Owatonna, LeRoy (Donna) Thoreson of Albert Lea, and Curtis (Sharon) Thoreson of Wanamingo; eleven grandchildren; twenty four great-grandchildren; seven great-great-grandchildren and special friend Dennis Wohfeil.
Margarethe was preceded in death by her husband, Adolph; brothers, Adolph and Elmer Romo; sisters, Lillian Aakre, Lenora Larson and Ruth Tongen.
The family prefers memorials to the Wanamingo Lutheran Cemetery Association.
Arrangements are with the Mahn Family Funeral Home - Larson Chapeel in Zumbrota.
