Margaret L. Zimmerman, age 89, of Zumbrota died on Tuesday, May 6, 2008 at the Zumbrota Nursing Home. Funeral services are scheduled for Friday, May 9, 2008 at 2:00 PM at the United Redeemer Lutheran Church in Zumbrota with Reverend Susan Vikstrom officiating. Burial will be in Zumbrota Cemetery. Visitation is scheduled for Thursday, May 8, 2008 from 4:00 � 7:00 PM at the Mahn Family Funeral Home � Larson Chapel in Zumbrota and on Friday one hour prior to the service at the church.
Margaret Louise Ohnstad was born on the family farm in Steele County, MN to Oliver N. and Louise (nee Flesche) Ohnstad. She grew up on the family farm, attended country school and graduated from Ellendale High School in 1936. On February 7, 1941 she married Paul H. Zimmerman in Ellendale. They made their home in Zumbrota, Paul managed the local creamery and Margaret was a homemaker. Margaret was an active member of United Redeemer Lutheran Church, singing in the church choir, working with the quilting group, Lefse group and ladies circle and teaching Sunday school. She was also an active member of the Stary-Yerka VFW Post #5727 Auxiliary, having served as an officer. Margaret enjoyed crossword puzzles, knitting, dancing, playing the piano, watching sporting events and volunteering at the Zumbrota Nursing Home. Margaret is survived by one daughter, Judy (Gary) Steffen of Faribault; one son, John (Linda) Zimmerman of Eden Prairie; seven grandchildren, Jeff (Holly) Steffen, Cheryl (Don) Plaisance, Kristen (Brian) LaPlante, Kari (Chris) Mensink, Ryan, Kate and Abby Zimmerman; seven great grandchildren, Maya Steffen, Beau and Payton Plaisance, Sean and Kendall LaPlante, Lauren and Annika Mensink; two sisters, Sylvia Klemmer of Owatonna and Harriet Carpenter of Interlachen, FL. Margaret was preceded in death by her husband Paul; two sons, Mark and Paul Jr.; four sisters, Ella Ellingson, Idella Swanson, Lillian Johnson, and Bernice Thompson and three brothers, Oliver Ohnstad Jr., Henry Ohnstad and Reuben Ohnstad. The family suggests memorials to the American Cancer Society or United Redeemer Lutheran Church.
