ROCHESTER A memorial service for Margaret E. Thompson will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Mahn Family Funeral Home Rochester Chapel with Rev. Steven Ronningen of Gloria Dei Lutheran Church officiating. Burial will be in Aspen Grove Cemetery in Burlington, Iowa.
Ms. Thompson, 80, of Rochester, former owner of Sweets & Treats in the Miracle Mile, died (Friday, July 17, 2009) in Rochester.
Margaret Elsie Thompson was born Aug. 29, 1928 in Burlington, IA where she grew up and graduated from High School. She attended the University of Denver in Denver, CO and then the Charity Dietetic School in New Orleans, LA for her internship. She worked as a Registered Dietician for the Barnes Hospital in St. Louis, MO and the Colorado State Hospital in Denver before moving to Rochester in 1958. She was a Registered Dietician for the Mayo Clinic from 1958 to 1962 and the Olmsted Community Hospital from 1962 to 1985. In 1985 she opened Sweets & Treats at the Miracle Mile which she operated until December of 2000. She enjoyed reading, politics, and crossword puzzles. She will be remembered for her brownies and carrot cake, her great conversations, her wonderful understanding of the younger generation, and the caring person that she was.
There are no immediate survivors; she leaves behind many friends and former customers.
Memorials are suggested to the Mayo Hospice program or a charity of the donor's choice.
