Margaret JoAnn Peters

Margaret JoAnn Peters, age 86, of Lake City passed away Tuesday August 8, 2017 at the Lake City Hospital. She was born July 5, 1931 in Raymondville, Texas to Ira and Olive Thomas.
JoAnn graduated from Checotah High School in Oklahoma in 1949. After she graduated she attended Business College in Tulsa Oklahoma. She then moved to Colorado Springs. It was there that she met Arnold Peters while roller-skating. They were married in Colorado Springs on December 14, 1952.
They settled in Lake City after Arnold's discharge from the Army. JoAnn worked for Jewell Nursery, the Blossom Shop and several other businesses in Lake City and also a bookkeeper for her husband's business. She was a lifelong member of St. John's Lutheran Church where she volunteered in the church office and was a Ladies Aid member of 60 years. She was a very active member of the Bittersweet Garden Club. JoAnn loved poetry, gardening and spending time with her family and friends.
She is survived by her two daughters and son, Diane Burfeind, Dan (Theresa) Peters and Anita Peters; 6 grandchildren, Jeff, Jen, Ryan (Molly), Joe, Becca (Henry) and Ben, 3 great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Arnold, parents, sister Geraldine Meacham, infant sister, Mary Lou and brother, William Thomas.
A Memorial Service will be Saturday, August 12, 2017 at 11:00 am at St. John's Lutheran Church in Lake City, with Rev. Daniel Reich officiating. Burial will be in St. John's Cemetery. Visitation will be Friday from 4 pm to 7 pm at the Mahn Family Funeral Home Anderson-Peterson Chapel Lake City. Friends may also call one hour before the service at the church.
