ROCHESTER The memorial service for Margaret "Peg" Osmundson will be held at 11:30 a.m. Tuesday, June 8th, 2010 at the Congregational Church, with the Reverend Ron Meyer officiating. Interment will be in the Church Columbarium.

Mrs. Osmundson, 82, of Rochester, died Tuesday (June 1, 2010) in Rochester.

Margaret Ann Merkley Osmundson, was born March 8, 1928, in Sac City, Iowa to Minniebell (Larson) and C. Merle Merkley. She moved with her family to Des Moines, Iowa, where she graduated from Roosevelt High School, in 1946. She attended MacMurray College in Jacksonville, Illinois, and then graduated from the University of Iowa in Iowa City with a BA degree in Psychology. She was employed as a Social Worker in Iowa City and Des Moines. On June 17, 1951, she married Dr. Philip J. "Jack" Osmundson in Des Moines, the love of her life. She accompanied her husband to Germany during his service in the U.S. Army from 1953 to 1955. The couple then settled Rochester in 1955, where Jack began his life's work as a physician at the Mayo Clinic.

Peg dedicated herself to her family, providing them great love, care and affection for many years, and later managed the Cranberry Corners gift shop in Rochester. She was a member of the Congregational Church and local book and bridge clubs, as well as a needlepoint group. She enjoyed Alpine and Nordic skiing, water sports, tennis, whale watching, coin collecting, bridge and music and was an avid sports fan. Peg and Jack traveled extensively, with trips to Nepal and Kenya being her favorites. Peg was a cat lover, bird watcher, and great admirer of flowers as well.

Always an optimist, Peg's was a life well lived, overflowing with many adventures, much laughter and great love. She was an excellent listener, gifted storyteller, and amazing wife, mother, grandmother, friend and neighbor to all. She will be missed deeply, but will live on in our hearts and memories forever.

Survivors include her husband Jack, of Rochester; her daughter Ellen (John) Osmundson Allenberg of Orinda, California; three sons, Paul (Cappi) of Petaluma, California; Eric of Minneapolis, Minnesota; and Robert of Madison, Wisconsin; four grandchildren Ozzie, Philipp, Teddy, and Margi; and her sister, Mary Cramer of Cincinnati, Ohio, as well as a host of beloved cousins, nieces and nephews. Five sisters and two brothers preceded her in death.

Memorials are suggested to the Mayo Clinic or the American Heart Association.
