A memorial service will be held for Margaret Flaaen on Sunday November 27th at 1:30 PM at Lands Lutheran Church in Zumbrota. The Reverend David Krinke will officiate. Inurnment will follow at the church cemetery. Mrs. Flaaen, 81, of Pine Island, died Wednesday November 23, 2011 at Pine Haven Care Center in Pine Island, where she had been a resident.
Margaret Louise Rubow was born April 6, 1930 in Olmsted County, the daughter of William and Alina Rubow. Raised on a farm near Chester, she was a graduate of Rochester High School in 1948. She worked at Model Laundry in Rochester until her marriage to Joseph Flaaen on January 16, 1953 at Trinity Lutheran Church in Rochester. She and her husband farmed outside of Zumbrota until 1979, and then moved to Zumbrota, after which she continued her work as a custodian at Lands Lutheran Church. Later, she volunteered as a secretary for AAL and Thrivent Financial. She was a member of Lands Lutheran Church, and the "Lands Quilters." She was also involved with the Town and Country Home Extension.
Margaret is survived by her son, David (Cecelia) Flaaen of Zumbrota; three daughters, Diane (Harley) Krause of Pine Island, Kathy (Grant) Hoeft of Rochester, and Karen (Brent) Bjorngaard of Zumbrota; nine grandchildren, Bob (Emily) Flaaen, Jim (Luanna) Flaaen, Chris Flaaen, Dan (Jessi) Flaaen, Sarah Krause, Heather Krause, Eric Hoeft, Megan Hoeft, and Brytton Bjorngaard; five great-grandchildren, Landon, Benjamin, Katelyn, Kaiden, and Brooklynn Flaaen; and a sister, Adeline (David) Harwick of Las Vegas, Nevada.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Joseph Flaaen, on June 24, 1996.
There will be no reviewal. However, the family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the church on Sunday.
If so desired, memorials may be directed to Lands Lutheran Church in Zumbrota or to Pine Haven Care Center in Pine Island.
