Margaret C. Dabill

March 17, 1917 — September 15, 2013

Margaret Dabill, 96, of Red Wing, died September 15, 2013 at St. Brigid's at Hi-Park Care Center.
She was born March 17, 1917 in Starbuck, Minnesota to Emil and Bertha (Barsness) Erickson. She married Everett Dabill in 1935. They owned a sawmill and farmed in Pine River, Minnesota. Everett died in 1989. In 1994 Margaret moved to Red Wing and lived at Jordan Towers for 15 years. She was active in quilt and craft groups and loved to have neighbors over for coffee. For the past four years she has lived at Potter Ridge Assisted Living.
Margaret was a true pioneer woman who survived the war flu of 1918, polio at age 17, and the challenges of rural life in northern Minnesota. Her joy in life was caring for people. Her home cooked meals, beautiful quilts and handwork warmed the bodies and souls of her family and countless others. She especially loved babies and sewed hundreds of baby quilts, sending many of them to the people of Appalachia for wrapping their newborns. She mended fences, mended people and animals, mended hearts and left a legacy of love of family, love of God, and love of her Norwegian heritage.
She is survived by her nine children: Esther Dabill of Owatonna, MN; Martha (Larry) Malewiski of Phoenix, AZ; Steve Dabill of Baxter, MN; Eunice (Keith) Beacham of Toronto, Ontario; Rachel (Bill Johnson) Dabill of Minneapolis, MN; Arlene (Bruce Bernard) Dabill of Des Moines, IA; Jesse (Rita) Dabill of Pine River, MN; Becky (Bill) Foot of Red Wing, MN; and Phebe (Doug) Klobnak of Des Moines, IA. She is also survived by her sister Edith Midtdahl of Edina, MN and by 13 grandchildren, 15 great grandchildren, and 6 great-great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband Everett, an infant son, Stanley, and one brother, Arnold Erickson.
A memorial service will take place at 1 p.m., Saturday, October 26, 2013 at Riverview Church in Pine River, Minnesota. Burial will be in Pine Ridge Cemetery. The family would like to thank the staff at Potter Ridge, St. Brigid's and Hospice, especially Connie Halverson, for the kindness and care they showed to Margaret and her family. The family requests that memorials be sent to charities that benefit children and families. On line condolences may be left for the family at www.mahnfamilyfuneralhome.com .
