Margaret Elaine Copp

December 17, 1929 — May 3, 2019

Margaret Elaine Copp, 89, of Lake City, died peacefully Friday, May 3, 2019, at her home surrounded by family. She was born on December 17, 1929 in Thief River Falls, Minnesota to Thorald and Serena (Hanson) Wasley. She graduated from Thief River High School in 1947 and trained as a LPN at Mercy Hospital in Thief River Falls. On April 20, 1949, she was united in marriage to Verle Copp. They farmed in Gillford Township for many years, retiring in 1992 and moved to Lake City. Verle sadly passed away on February 18, 2009.

Marge was an active member of First Lutheran Church. She spent many hours working at church events and especially enjoyed quilting with the group. She found time to work part-time making custom jewelry for Kollar Keeper. Marge also enjoyed working outdoors and took special pride in caring for her yard. Her family remembers her as exceedingly independent and caring, always insisting on taking care of others before herself. She had a special love for her family and supported her grandchildren in their sporting events. In her later years she became an avid Twins and Vikings fan.

Margaret's strength, spirit, faith and unwavering love for all those around her can never be matched. Her passing has left a void in all of our lives that can never be filled.

Margaret is survived by two children, Dean (Gina) Copp of Janesville, Wisconsin and Dawn Copp of Lake City; five grandchildren, Marissa Copp (Alfredo Monteros), Alex Copp, Sabrina Copp, Daniel Copp and Brian Copp; one sister, Ruth Engelstad of Carrington, North Dakota and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; three sisters, Esther Qualey, Agnes Hayden and Doris Finstad and four brothers, Elmer, Sigurd, Harold and Leon Wasley.

Memorial service will be 11 a.m. Thursday, May 9, 2019, at First Lutheran Church in Lake City with Reverend Duane Holst officiating. Burial will be at the Lakewood Cemetery. Visitation will be for one hour prior to the service at the church. Funeral arrangements are by the Mahn Family Funeral Home, Anderson-Peterson Chapel.
