Margaret M. Burgess

Margaret M. Burgess, age 90, of Pine Island, went to be with her Lord and Savior on Sunday, January 24, 2016 at the Pine Haven Care Center. A memorial service will be held at Second Street Church of Christ in Rochester on Saturday, January 30, 2016 at 2:00 PM with Minister Steve Sikes officiating. A visitation will be held at the church one hour prior to the service on Saturday. Arrangements were made with Mahn Funeral Home - Mahler Chapel, Pine Island.
Margaret Marie Kunz was born on September 1, 1925 in Zumbrota to Melford and Bertha (nee Olson) Kunz. She spent time growing up in North Dakota and Minneapolis before moving to Kasson, MN. Margaret graduated from Mantorville High School on May 31, 1944 and on June 1, 1944 she married Richard Burgess, the love of her life. Margaret and Richard farmed on the family farm northwest of Mantorville for 7 years and then moved southwest of Pine Island in 1951 where they farmed for 62 years. Margaret enjoyed gardening, cooking, canning, sewing, crafts and her family. Her gardens were greatly admired by everyone passing by.
Margaret is survived by her husband of 71 years, Richard Burgess; children, Lynda (Bill) Barnacle of Brainerd, MN., Donna (Victor) Montez of Simi Valley, CA., Ken (Susan) Burgess of Becker, MN., Bonita (Mark) Nolden of Andover, MN.; 11 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; two half brothers, Jack (Shirley) Kunz of San Jose, CA. and Jerry Kunz of San Francisco, CA.
Margaret was preceded in death by her parents, Melford and Bertha; sons, Kieth Burgess, Tom Burgess; and her brother, Jim Kunz.
