Marcia Paulson

Marcia Ruth Paulson, 81, of Rochester, MN passed away on Monday, June 28th, 2021 at Saint Marys Hospital surrounded by her family.

Marcia was born August 19, 1939 to Dean and Alice (Fiegel) Nelson in Rochester, MN. She was a member of the last graduating class of Central High School in Rochester, MN in 1958. She went on to earn her bachelor's degree at the University of Minnesota with a major in Foreign Languages.

She met her future husband, Charles "Bill" Paulson, at her best friend's wedding where she was the maid of honor and he was the best man. They were united in marriage the following year at Christ United Methodist Church in Rochester, MN on March 25th, 1962. Following their marriage, they purchased the Butterfield Advocate newspaper.  They then purchased the Mountain Lake Observer two years later and combined the newspapers, publishing the Observer/Advocate for over 40 years until their retirement.

Marcia was an active member of the Butterfield community serving on the school board as well as helping her husband run the print shop at the Butterfield Threshing Bee for many years.  She marveled at all of God's creations and enjoyed being outdoors fishing, hunting, rock collecting, and feeding animals.  Marcia also enjoyed traveling and was able to make many memories with her family and friends over the years through these trips.  In retirement she enjoyed spending time with her family and routinely surprised her grandchildren with garage sale treasures she found for them.

She is survived by her husband of 59 years, Charles "Bill" Paulson of Rochester, MN; daughter, Marci (Jim) Newcome of Mazeppa, MN; grandchildren, Jordan Newcome of Winona, MN and Kaitlyn Newcome of Mazeppa, MN; and a step-grandson, Taylor Newcome of Jackson, MN.  She was preceded in death by her parents, Dean and Alice Nelson.

Memorial service will be held on Friday July 2, 2021 at 1:00 p.m. at Mahn Family Funeral Home - Rochester Chapel.
