Marcella “Marcy” Ruth Doyle, 95, a proud resident of Red Wing, Minnesota, died Thursday, February 11, 2021, at Valentine’s Assisted Living. She was born on March 16, 1925, to Nicholas and Veronica Thul in Venron Center, MN, one of seven children. After graduating from high school in 1943, she went on to attend beauty school in Winona, and upon completion, came to Red Wing in 1945. It was here that she met Ernie Doyle, and the two were married in June of 1946. Together they had 5 children and shared 36 years of marriage until his death in 1982.
Marcy owned her own business downtown while raising her first 4 children, and then moved the business to her home on 10th street for the remaining 15 years, as a hairstylist, into the early 1970’s. She did not, however, retire--her community involvement flourished. She became a part of the Goodhue County Historical Society; RW Heritage Preservation Committee, receiving The Award of Merit from them in 2009; The Women’s Network, being inducted into the Hall of Fame in 2008; Habitat for Humanity, where she was past director for Goodhue county and recipient of the MN Community Builder Award. She was involved with community theater and as a writer, authored a book in 2009 titled, “A Face of Red Wing, from my perspective”. Locally, she also helped establish the annual Irish Party. She was an active member of the Church of St. Joseph where she belonged to the St. Anne’s Society.
Marcy spent decades supporting the DFL party and was involved at both the county and state levels. In 2008 she received the “Sue Rockne Outstanding Service Award” from the Goodhue County DFL for a “lifetime dedication to excellence and leadership”, as well as the DFL 2008 Woman of Distinction Award and the DFL Hall of Fame, present by the DFL Woman’s Summit Committee.
Marcy loved watching the MN Vikings and MN Lynx and the only thing better on a Sunday afternoon than a PGA event, was an LPGA event! She may have been a woman with an agenda, with a personal focus and energy, but she also knew how to enjoy herself and have fun with her friends and family. Marcy’s values in life were evident in her volunteerism, her connection to the community, her faith and her love for her family.
She is survived by her children, Jeff (Denise) Doyle, Jo (Bob) Prahl, Kath Doyle and John (Suzanne) Doyle; grandchildren, Eleanore, Sarah, Jack and Grace. Marc herself was just shy of 96, and her four living siblings have reached the 90’s as well including, Vera (99) of California, Dean (97) of Rochester, MN , Kay (94) of Wabasha and Margaret (89) of California. She is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
Marc was preceded in death by her husband, Ernie; siblings, Nicholas and Vincent and her dear son, Robert, who passed away just 15 days prior.
