Marcella L. Petersmeyer Morrison ("Marcie") age 88 of Red Wing passed away at Mayo Clinic Health System Lake City Care Center on Wednesday February 21st, 2018.
She was born in Faribault Minnesota on March 21st 1929 to Otto E. Melchert and Alma (Pooch) Melchert. She grew up Faribault attending school there. She married Roger W. Petersmeyer on April 25th 1947 at the Little Brown Church in Nashua, Iowa. They farmed near Nerstrand. She also worked at the Faribault State Hospital. In 1968 they moved to Red Wing and operated the Red Wing Dairy Queen. After selling the Dairy Queen she worked at Red Wing Pottery salesroom, and Ferrins gift shop. After a tragic car accident that claimed the life of her daughter Mary Jean, she cared for her quadriplegic granddaughter Teresa for 15 years. After Teresa's death she cared for former US Ambassador Eugenie Anderson in their home. They retired and moved to Grove, Oklahoma. After Roger's death in 1998, she moved back to Red Wing. She lived a number of years at Jordon Towers and had many friends there.
In 2002 she married Lamont (Monty) Morrison. He passed away in 2004. They enjoyed two wonderful years together at their campground trailer in Chippewa Falls, Wisconsin.
She loved to travel, play cards, work puzzles, making jewelry, and quilting.
Marcie is survived by son David (Janice) Petersmeyer, 2 grandsons Brad (Angie) Petersmeyer and Ryan (Anna) Petersmeyer, 5 great grandchildren (Gracie, Evan, Isabel, Ellis, Will) Petersmeyer, 2 stepsons Gary (Laurie) Morrison and Craig (Debbie) Morrison, 1 stepdaughter Sylvia Morrison, plus many close friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents, two husbands Roger and Monty, daughter Mary Jean, one granddaughter Teresa Thielbar, brothers Donald, Ray, Harry Melchert, and one sister Margret Morse.
Funeral service will be 11:00 AM Monday, February 26th, 2018 at First Presbyterian Church in Red Wing with Reverend Heidi Bolt officiating. Burial will be at the Burnside Cemetery. Visitation will be at the church starting 1 1/2 hours before the service.
