Marcella "Marcy" Eileen Kempf, 87, Red Wing, died peacefully on Wednesday, June 15, 2011 at Potter Ridge where she has resided for the past year and a half. She was born October 18, 1923 in Red Wing, the daughter of Oscar and Alice (Sather) Bjornstad. She was a 1941 Central High School graduate. She served in the U. S. Marine Corps during World War II from November 9, 1943 to November 27, 1945. After her discharge, she returned to Red Wing and began working at Prudential Insurance. She married Robert Kempf at United Lutheran Church on April 27, 1946. After raising her family she went to work at Interstate Medical Clinic for a number of years. In 1984 they moved to their lake home on Church Pine Lake near Amery, WI where they enjoyed entertaining family and friends. Robert died January 19, 2009. She was a member of United Lutheran Church where she had taught Sunday School and served on the Altar Guild. She enjoyed cooking, playing bridge and golfing. Marcy was a loving mother, wife, grandmother and a loyal friend.

Survivors include her daughter, Sue (Jim) VanDeusen of Red Wing; two sons: Chuck (Sue) and John (Jane) Kempf, all of Ham Lake; two granddaughters: Tess (Jay) Barry of Hutchinson and Bridget Kempf of Ham Lake; two grandsons: Brandon Kempf of Fridley and Tony Kempf of Minneapolis; one great-granddaughter, Reese Barry; one brother, Larry Bjornstad of Red Wing and one sister, Dora (Bruce) Thompson of Rochester. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband of 63 years, Robert; and one sister, Phyllis Beveridge.

Memorial service will be 11 a.m. Saturday, June 18, 2011 at United Lutheran Church with Reverend Randall Johnson officiating. Burial will be in Oakwood Cemetery. Visitation will be for one hour prior to the service at the church. Memorials are preferred to United Lutheran Church, Red Wing Area Hospice or Potter Ridge Activity Fund. The family would like to thank the staff at Potter Ridge and Fairview Red Wing Hospice for their wonderful care. Mahn Family Funeral Home, Bodelson-Mahn Chapel is handling arrangements.
