ROCHESTER The funeral for Marcella Dorsey will be 11:00 a.m. Wednesday at Madonna Towers Chapel with Rev. Jay Rowland officiating. Graveside services will be 3:00 p.m. Wednesday at Dumont Cemetery in Dumont, Iowa.
Mrs. Dorsey, 91, a resident of Madonna Towers in Rochester, Minnesota, died Sunday (June 21, 2009) at Madonna Towers.
Marcella Virginia Johnson was born Feb. 5, 1918 to Milton Edward and Stella (Berthoff) Johnson in Dumont, Iowa where she was raised and graduated from High School. She attended the University of Northern Iowa in Cedar Falls where she received her degree in Elementary Education. She taught in Elementary Schools in central Iowa before her marriage to Terrance Arlan "TA" Dorsey on June 11, 1944 in Dumont. Dr. Dorsey was a veterinarian; he died May 1, 2003. The couple lived in Brookings, South Dakota for 15 years where she served as a Sunday school teacher and was active in Girl Scouts and 4-H. They then moved to Ames, Iowa where Dr. Dorsey worked for the National Animal Disease Laboratory until his retirement. While in Ames Marcella was a member of North Minster Presbyterian Church, where she was active in the Women's group, and was a member of the National Association of Retired Federal Employees. Her husband enjoyed gardening and she enjoyed canning fruits and vegetables from the garden. She was also a talented seamstress and did needlework. The couple moved to Rochester in 2000 where she was a member of the First Presbyterian Church.
Survivors include two daughters, Zoe A. Dorsey of Muscatine, IA; and Lea (Dwight) Jennings of Rochester; two granddaughters, Crystal (Thad) Fisher of DeForest, WI; and Angela Jennings of Rochester; and two great grandsons, Westin and Tyson. Her parents and one brother also preceded her in death.
Friends may call one hour before the service at Madonna Towers on Wednesday.
Memorials are suggested to Madonna Towers.
