Mai Dung Nguyen, 72, of Red Wing, died suddenly on Tuesday, January 19, 2021 at his home. He was born June 20, 1948, in Vietnam, where he grew up, graduated from high school and enlisted in the Vietnam Air Force, serving until 1975. He was united in marriage to Thuy Do in 1969 and they had two sons, Minh and Thang. The family moved to the United States in 1975, and made Red Wing, Minnesota their home. He worked many years as a cook at Larry’s Broiler until they closed. For 37 years he was employed at the Red Wing Shoe Company, retiring in 2014. Mai was an avid Tae Kwan Do practitioner and instructor for many years in the Red Wing Community. He always greeted everyone with a smile. Mai was a loving husband, father and the proudest grandfather.
He is survived by his wife, Thuy Do of Red Wing; 2 sons, Minh (Tonya) Nguyen and Thang (Thuy) Nguyen of St. Paul; 3 grandchildren, Dao, Manh and Duyen Nguyen; 2 brothers-in-law, Khang Do and Thuong Do; Sister, Mai Ngo and a niece, Andrea Ngo.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Cac Van Nguyen and Kim Thi Van; 2 sisters, Huynh Ngoc Thi Nguyen and Tuyet Ngoc Thi Nguyen and a brother, Hong Ngoc Thi Nguyen.
A walk-through visitation will be held from 2-6 p.m. on Sunday, January 24, 2021 at the Mahn Family Funeral Home, Bodelson-Mahn Chapel. Masks are required. Online condolences may be sent to the family at www.mahnfamilyfuneralhome.com
