Mae Annette Hanvelt, 73, Red Wing, died Friday at Fairview Red Wing Medical Center. She was born November 24, 1932 in Red Wing, the daughter of Howard and Edna (Hanson) Tesdall. She was a graduate of Red Wing Central High School and she attended Stevens College in Missouri. She married F. Dewey Hanvelt in 1952. They lived various places including Red Wing, Bloomington, Minn, Costa Mesa, Calif., and Crystal Lake, Illinois. She worked as a buyer for Montgomery Ward and as a manager of Dress Barn in Illinois until retirement. They moved to Birchwood, Wis. to build a retirement home on Mud Lake. Dewey died in 1999 and she later moved back to Red Wing. She was very artistic and enjoyed decorative painting, portrait painting, and rosemaling, card stamping, cooking, baking, and knitting. She enjoyed her grandchildren and spending time at the lake and outdoors and was very proud of her Norwegian heritage. Survivors include two children, Mike (Monica) Hanvelt of Rice Lake, Wis and Jill Tomek of Vancouver, Wash; four grandchildren, Andy, Kristine and Ben Hanvelt and Katie Tomek; two sisters, Lu Wendler of Red Wing and Vicki (David) Lindrew of Baton Rouge, LA; one brother, Ron (Marian) Tesdall of Red Wing; one sister-in-law, Eileen (Jim) Jansen of Anoka; nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, Dewey and one sister, Ardis Kramer. Memorial service will be 1:30 p. m. Monday at St. Paul?s Lutheran Church with Reverend Kristen Schlauderaff officiating. Burial will be in Oakwood Cemetery. Visitation will be for one hour prior to the service at the church.
