Madlyn Hawkenson Barringer

Madlyn A. Hawkenson Barringer, age 95, of Red Wing, died Wednesday, March 12, 2008, at St. Brigid's at Hi-Park. She was born on April 15, 1912, in Hastings, Minnesota, to George and Amanda (Boquist) Furney. She was a 1930 graduate of Hastings High School. She was a member of St. Luke's Episcopal Church in Hastings. She married Arnold Hawkenson on September 13, 1933, in Red Wing. They lived in Red Wing where she worked ten years for Red Wing Sewer Pipe and thirteen years for Jostens. Arnold died in 1983. She married Sam Barringer on May 28, 1988, in Owatonna, Minnesota, and he died on May 6, 1997. She was a member of Christ Episcopal Church where she was involved in church events and a member of the women's guilds; Josten's Loafers and Red Wing Camera Club. She was the first person to sign up for the Seminary Plaza and enjoyed traveling and photography.

Survivors include two children, Terry (Judith) Hawkenson of Bemidji and Sandra (Douglas) Smith of Stacy; four grandchildren; fourteen great-grandchildren; and one sister, Evelyn Romain of Minneapolis. She was preceded in death by her husbands; one grandson, Peter Hawkenson; three sisters, Irene Jeske, Bernice Seeley and Agnes Foster; and two brothers, Wilbur and Raymond Furney.

Funeral will be 11 a.m. Monday at Christ Episcopal Church with Reverend Charles Uhlik officiating. Burial will be in Burnside Cemetery. Visitation will be one hour prior to the time of services Monday at the church. Memorials are preferred to the Book of Golden Memories at the church. Mahn Family Funeral Home, Bodelson-Mahn Chapel is handling arrangements.
