OBITUARY: Mabel (Cordes) Thompson
Funeral services for Mabel (Cordes) Thompson will be at 2 PM on Saturday, February 23, 2008 at Christ Lutheran Church in Zumbrota with Reverend Wayne D. Schoch officiating. Active casketbearers will be Cynthia Cordes, Scott Cordes, John Cordes, David Froyum, Bill Froyum, Bruce Froyum, Michele Walker, Robert Cordes and James Cordes. Honorary casketbearers will be Renee Johnson, Scott Jackson, Douglas Jackson, Mitchell Jackson, Beth Thompson, Keith Thompson, Sara VanSickle, Brian Miller and Reed Miller. Burial will follow at the Zumbrota Cemetery
Mabel, age 94, of Zumbrota died on Tuesday, February 19, 2008 at the Zumbrota Nursing Home. She was born Mabel Emma Stehr on March 4, 1913 in Zumbrota to Henrich and Metta (Luhman) Stehr. She attended school and graduated from Zumbrota High School. On January 1, 1933, she married Paul Cordes in Zumbrota. The couple farmed near Wanamingo until 1956 when they moved into Zumbrota. Paul died on October 13, 1956. On June 1, 1961, Mabel married Pearlner Thompson in Zumbrota. She worked at Gambles/Post's for many years. Pearlner died on September 2, 1977. She was a member of Christ Lutheran Church, the Ladies Aid, Quilting Group, and the Birthday Club. She enjoyed sewing, knitting, playing cards, the coffee group and visiting with family and friends.
Mabel is survived by two sons: Lloyd (Avis) Cordes, of Wanamingo and Robert (Audrey) Cordes, of Montgomery, AL; two daughters: Audrey Cordes, of Zumbrota and Elaine (Gunder) Froyum, of Wanamingo; two step-sons: Duane (Dorothy) Thompson, of Zumbrota and LeRoy (Vicki) Thompson, of Eden Prairie, MN; two step-daughters: Ruby (Willis) Miller, of Blooming Prairie, MN and Harriet (Dyrol) Jackson, of Welch; nine grandchildren; 9 step-grandchildren; 15 great grandchildren; 13 step-great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her two husbands and two brothers.
Visitation will be from 4-7 PM on Friday, February 22, 2008 at the Mahn Family Funeral Home Larson Chapel in Zumbrota and one hour before services at the church on Saturday.
