Mabel Marie Leuthe, 98, Red Wing, died Thursday, November 13, 2008, at Valentine's Assisted Living Residence in Red Wing. She was born March 23, 1910 in Trenton, Wisconsin, the daughter of John and Clara ( Leach) Taylor. She attended school in Hager City. At the age of 16 she married Arthur Leuthe. They lived in Chicago and Downers Grove, IL where their son Arthur, Jr. was born. During World War II she worked at a defense plant. They moved back to the Red Wing area in 1945 to a farm on Spring Creek Road. She worked at Durkee Atwood, then in the art department of Red Wing Pottery as a hand painter. After a few years they moved to Goodhue and she opened a root beer stand next to the Home Oil station that her husband ran. When they retired, they moved to a cabin by a lake near Aitkin, MN, then to a home in Aitkin. She was a very active member of St. John's Lutheran Church in Aitkin and they had many friends there. After Arthur's death in 1983 she moved to Jordan Towers in Red Wing and became a member of St. John's Lutheran Church. She has resided at Valentine's Assisted Living Residence for the past two years. She loved doing picture puzzles, playing cards, especially canasta, with the grandchildren and was an avid reader until her eyesight failed.
Survivors include one son, Arthur, Jr. of Marco Island, Florida; four grandsons: Philip (Barbara), David (Candace), Todd (JoLayne) and Mark (Sandra) Leuthe; ten grandchildren: Michael, Caitlin, Jon, Rebecca, Krista, Andrew, Kyle, Kathryn, Samantha and Alexis; two great-great-grandchildren, Kiara and Isaac; several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by three sisters and three brothers.
Funeral will be 12 noon Monday at Mahn Family Funeral Home, Bodelson-Mahn Chapel with Reverend Loren Lucht officiating. Burial will be in Oakwood Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Philip, David, Todd, Mark and Jon Leuthe and Andrew Opp. Visitation will be for one hour prior to the service. In lieu of flowers memorials are preferred to Fairview Red Wing Hospice.
