Lyle Joseph Ryan, 81, of Red Wing, died Friday, June 26, 2009 at the Fairview Red Wing Medical Center. He was born January 5, 1928 to Eugene and Justine (Hofschulte) Ryan. He attended schools in rural Goodhue. He farmed before joining the U.S. Army where he served in the Korean Conflict from January 18, 1955 to January 10, 1957. He continued farming after he was discharged. In addition to farming he worked at Bahls Implement in Hastings and Nord Implement and Mid-America in Zumbrota. He married Diane Grant on June 13, 1964. They later divorced. He married Joyce Spriggle on July 3, 1985. They made their home in Red Wing. He was a member of the American Legion Leo C. Peterson Post #54 and the Redman Club. He enjoyed fishing, shooting pool, bowling, camping, gardening, and the outdoors.

He is survived by his wife, Joyce; son, Joseph Ryan of Hastings; four daughters, Judith (Bruce) Pederson of Wanamingo, Betty (Bob) Ofstie of Wanamingo, Patricia (David) Blenkush of Shakopee, and Jennifer (Chris) Goihl of Savage; three step-children, Sheryl Plank of Red Wing, Ricky Spriggle of Bay City, Wisconsin and Richard Spriggle of Red Wing; ten grandchildren, Jason Minter, Alyssa Minter, Justin Pederson, Brandon Pederson, Jenna Ofstie, Jill Ofstie, Jordyn Blenkush, Mitchell Blenkush, Michael Goihl, and Megan Goihl; three step-grandchildren, Kristina Plank, Donovan Plank, and Gracie Spriggle; seven siblings, Marietta (Milton) Falk of Milwaukee, Wisconsin, Lorraine Robinson of Red Wing, Jean (Stan) Filgas of Fresno, California, Audrey Murphy of Torrence, California, Lloyd (Joyce) Ryan of Goodhue, Eugene (Lucy) Ryan of Hastings, and Michael (Jan) Ryan of Pepin, and many nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his parents and one son, Timothy Patrick Ryan.

Funeral service will be 11 a.m. Tuesday, June 30, 2009 at the Mahn Family Funeral Home, Bodelson-Mahn Chapel with Father Bruce Peterson officiating. Burial will be at Oakwood Cemetery with full military honors. Visitation will be 5 to 8 p.m. Monday, June 29, 2009 at the funeral home with a legion prayer service at 7 p.m. and for one hour prior to the service. Memorials are preferred to the donor's choice.
