Lyle Henry Borgschatz, age 91 of Wanamingo, died Tuesday, March 4, 2025 at St. Marys Hospital. He was born March 14, 1933 in Red Wing to Henry and Lydia (Hinsch) Borgschatz. He attended country school through 8th grade then went to Dr. Martin Luther High School in New Ulm where he completed his high school education. After high school, Lyle was drafted into the United States Army where he served for two years at Ft. Lewis in Washington. When he returned, he married Jean Lexvold on August 20, 1955 at Lands Lutheran Church and they moved to the family farm to take over the operation. Faith, family and farming were Lyle’s passions. He was a lifelong learner and avid reader, who always embraced new technology and progressive farming practices. Lyle was a very active member of Trinity Lutheran Church, an original board member of the Al-Corn Ethanol Plant and a former Director at the Security State Bank of Wanamingo. He enjoyed spending time with his family, especially following his grandsons’ activities and watching or attending Minnesota Twins games whenever possible.
Lyle is survived by his wife, Jean of Wanamingo; three children, Gary (Sandra) Borgschatz of Wanamingo, Dawn (Craig) Johnson of Forest City, IA, Beth (Bill) Havlovic of Waverly, IA; five grandsons, Andrew (Kari) Johnson, Alex Johnson, Tanner Borgschatz, Cole and Connor Havlovic; two great-grandchildren, Evie and Addie Johnson; brother-in-law, John Augustine; sister-in-law, Marcy Borgschatz; brother-in-law, Bob (Diane) Lexvold; sister-in-law, Cathy Lexvold; along with numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents Henry and Lydia; siblings, Ardelle Borgschatz, Irene (Dennis) Swenson, David (Judy) Borgschatz, Kathy Augustine, and Ralph Borgschatz.
Funeral service will be 11 a.m. Saturday, March 8, 2025 at Trinity Lutheran Church in Wanamingo with Reverend David Sorenson officiating. The funeral will be livestreamed and can be viewed at https://youtu.be/C_Kk-AyoaIw Burial will take place at Trinity Lutheran Cemetery. Visitation will be 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. Friday, March 7, 2025 at the Mahn Family Funeral Home – Larson Chapel in Zumbrota and for one hour prior to the service on Saturday at the church.
