Lyle Gerald Amundson, 74, of rural Goodhue, died on Thursday, October 1, 2020, at the Mayo Clinic Health System Lake City Care Center after a battle with cancer. He was born in Red Wing on July 19, 1946, to Byron and Helen (Burfeind) Amundson. He graduated from Goodhue High School in 1964. He attended college at Winona State University and graduated from the University of Minnesota with a degree in agriculture in 1968. Lyle farmed the family centennial farm his entire life in rural Goodhue. He was a member of St. Peter’s Lutheran Church in Goodhue and was a member of the Goodhue Lion’s Club. He enjoyed playing cards, watching classic T.V. shows, reading, and collecting coins. Most of all, he enjoyed giving his nieces and nephews rides in his combine and showing them his collection of tractors.
He is survived by one sister, Kathleen (Dennis) Distad of Kasson, MN; nieces and nephews, Heidi Watne, Karen Nehring, Merlin Amundson, Jr., Heather Flashinski, Martin Amundson, Laura Amundson, Kathrine Russell, and Daniel Distad. He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers, Merlin and Marlin Amundson.
Memorials are preferred to an organization of the donor’s choice.
A graveside service will be held at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, October 7, 2020, at the Evergreen Cemetery in Goodhue with Reverend Martin Weigand officiating. Social distancing and masks are expected.
