Luella Hattie Mandelkow, 84, of Vasa, died Tuesday, December 18, 2007, at St. Brigid's at Hi-Park. She was born on April 2, 1923, in Oak Center, Wabasha County, Minnesota to John and Martha (Ohlhaber) Wohlers. She attended school at Vasa district #131. She worked for different families cooking, cleaning and babysitting. On February 15, 1945, she was married to Vernon Mandelkow at Vasa Lutheran Church. They moved to Norfolk, Virginia while Vernon was in the service. Following his discharge they moved back to Vasa. They farmed for many years prior to retiring in 1981. They continued to live on the farm until Vernon's death on January 2, 1986. She then lived with her son, Robert and his family in Vasa. She was member of Vasa Lutheran Church, White Rock Homemakers, Goodhue Pioneer Club and the WELCA Rachel Circle. She enjoyed playing cards, baking and being with her grandchildren.
Survivors include two sons, Vernon, Jr. (Jane) Mandelkow and Robert (Laurie) Mandelkow all of Vasa; seven grandchildren, Michelle Gore, Brian Mandelkow, Mark Mandelkow, Jason Mandelkow, Sister Kimberly Mandelkow, Justin Mandelkow and Stacy Mandelkow and two great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband; two brothers, Earl and Orrie Wohlers and one sister, Verna Angerman.
Funeral will 11 a.m. Friday at Vasa Lutheran Church with Rev. Michael Dobbins officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Pallbearers will be Brian, Mark, Jason, Justin and Scott Mandelkow and John "Butch" Angerman. Honorary pallbearers will be granddaughters and Andrea and Venessa Mandelkow and Jen Puppe. Visitation will be from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. Thursday (today) at the Mahn Family Funeral Home, Bodelson-Mahn Chapel and at the church for one hour prior to the service. Memorials are preferred to the church.
