Luella Marie Elizabeth Hendel, 99, of Red Wing, died Monday at her home. She was born on September 1, 1907 in Cannon Falls to Carl and Selma (Berg) Fredrickson. She graduated from Cannon Falls High School in 1926. On November 25, 1933, she married Frederick Hendel in Red Wing. They lived in Red Wing. For a number of years she cared for her mother and her father-in-law, until their deaths. Frederick died on November 21, 1996. She was a longtime member of United Lutheran Church where she was active in the church circles. She enjoyed gardening, sewing, crocheting and doing crossword puzzles. Survivors include one son, Robert Hendel of Red Wing; two daughters, Joanne Hemmah of Red Wing and Nancy (Curt) Smith of Woodbury; 10 grandchildren; 15 great grandchildren and two great great grandchildren; one brother, Steven (Marian) Fredrickson of San Diego, Calif. and nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband; one great grandson, Preston Hemmah; one brother, Eldon Fredrickson and one sister Lorena Schiller. Funeral will be 11:30 a.m. Thursday at United Lutheran Church with Rev. Randall Johnson officiating. Burial will be in the Oakwood Cemetery. Pallbearers will be John, Mike, Ron and Tom Hemmah, Jeff and Tim Hendel and Joe Smith. Honorary pallbearers will be Chris Hemmah, Amy Sexson and Shanna Salzman. Visitation will be for one hour prior to the service at the church, Funeral arrangements are by the Mahn Family Funeral Home, Bodelson-Mahn Chapel.
