PINE ISLAND A memorial service for Ludwig Kirgis will be 11:00 a.m. Wednesday at Zwingli United Church of Christ in Berne with the Rev. Victor Jortack officiating. Private burial will be in the Berne Cemetery.
Mr. Kirgis, 95, of Pine Island, died Saturday (Aug. 2, 2008) at the Pine Haven Care Center in Pine Island.
Ludwig Albert Kirgis was born October 16, 1912 in Wallisellen, Switzerland. He immigrated to the United States with his parents. He attended country school in the Berne, MN area.
On August 31, 1935 he married Elaine Stucki and following their marriage farmed in the Pine Island area. Mr. Kirgis also worked for Land 'O Lakes and after retiring from farming and Land O' Lakes, worked part time for Milton Township. He was a member of the Zwingli United Church of Christ, and enjoyed traveling, rock hounding, and his flower gardens
Survivors include his six children, Avis (Charles) Jackson of Bishop, CA; Avon (Dale) Gille of Tampa, Fl; Gary (Linda) of Spring Hill, Fl; Rosemary (Fred) Heimberg of Pine Island; Grant ( Penny), and Ross (Pam), both of Rochester; 17 grandchildren, 29 great grandchildren and 7 great-great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife and three sisters.
Friends may call from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Tuesday at Mahn Family Funeral Home Mahler Chapel in Pine Island.
Memorials are suggested to the Zwingli United Church of Christ.
