Lucille Irene Hammond was born on December 3, 1920 in Shelly, MN to Nyle and Ruth (nee Haalland) Hammond. She graduated from Rochester High School in 1939. She then attended and graduated from the Rochester State Hospital School of Nursing in 1943. She then began her career as an RN as nursing was her passion. On November 6, 1943 she was united in marriage to Arnold Joyce Alme at Zumbro Lutheran Church in Rochester. They made their home on a dairy farm in rural Wanamingo, where they raised their three sons. Lucille was a Registered Nurse at the Zumbrota Hospital for over twenty-eight years. Lucille and Joyce moved into Wanamingo from their farm in 1972. Lucille volunteered with the American Red Cross and at the Zumbrota Nursing Home. She was an active member of Lands Lutheran Church all of her married life, teaching Sunday school and participating in many activities. Lucille loved to travel, fish, work in her garden, play cards and bake, but most of all she loved her family. She was a nurturing, caring and happy person.
Lucille is survived by her three sons, David (Judi) Alme of Minneapolis, Neil (Kathy) Alme of Bloomington, and Gary (Norma) Alme of West Concord; seven grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and six nieces and six nephews.
Lucille was preceded in death by her parents and husband, Joyce.
