Lowell Raymond Peterson, 82, of Red Wing, died on June 19, 2020 at Valentine's Assisted Living. He was born in Red Wing on March 14, 1938 to Raymond and Lucille (Johnson) Peterson and was baptized and confirmed in Vasa Lutheran Church. He graduated from Red Wing Central High School in 1956, and farmed with his father, and later, his sons. Lowell loved farming and had a strong work ethic.
In 1957, he married Leah Nell Kolberg. They made their home on the farm in Vasa Township and were blessed with five children. Lowell enjoyed people and was an active member of his community. He served on the Vasa School Board, Red Wing School Board and Goodhue County Rural Electric Association Board, Co-operative Power Board, Statewide Board, and was a Goodhue County Commissioner. He had also been a member of the National Guard, been active in the Goodhue Lions Club and was a Lion District Governor.
Lowell was proud of his Swedish heritage, and would kiddingly say "There are those who are Swedes and those who wish they were."
Lowell is survived by his five children; Rhonda Hayes of Red Wing, Scott (Kellie) Peterson of Vasa, Steven (Karolyn) Peterson of Goodhue, Sarah (Dennis) Hinsch of Goodhue and Shane (Kelly) Peterson of Red Wing; grandchildren, Travis (Sarah) Hayes, Rachel (Jeremy) Koenig, Josh (Laura) Peterson, Cameron (Merribeth) Peterson, Angela (Evan) Ramseth, Malory (Bryant) Grover, Cassy (Luke) O'Reilly, Courtney (Cody) Lodermeier, Zach (Kara) Hinsch, Shelby Hinsch, Calvin (fiancée, Kathryn) Peterson, Mikayla, Sam, Tristen, Ellie, Charlie, Maddox, Brody, William, and Ruby Peterson; 15 great-grandchildren, with 3 on the way; former wife, Leah Nell; sisters, Beverly Hawkenson of Red Wing, Jane (Carmen) Priesz of Sioux Falls and many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents Ray and Lucille.

Funeral service will be 11 a.m., Wednesday, July 1, 2020 at Vasa Lutheran Church with Rev. Maureen Hagen officiating. Due to the MN COVID restrictions, the funeral will have very limited seating. Visitation will be 5-7 p.m., Tuesday, June 30, 2020 at the Mahn Family Funeral Home. Masks are required at both events. Burial will be at Vasa Lutheran Cemetery. Following the service there will be a YouTube link posted to the funeral home's website to view the service for those who are unable to attend. Online condolences may be left and the video viewed at www.mahnfamilyfuneralhome.com. Memorials may be directed to Vasa Lutheran Church, the Goodhue Lions Club or the charity of the donor's choice.
