Lowell A. Mitchell

Lowell A. Mitchell, age 83 of Mazeppa died on Tuesday, May 21, 2019 at the Mayo Clinic Health Systems - Red Wing Hospital. The funeral service will be held on Tuesday, May 28, 2019 at 11:00 AM at St. John's Lutheran Church in Mazeppa with Pastor Alan Horn officiating. Burial will be in Pleasant Prairie Cemetery in Rochester. Visitation will be on Monday, May 27, 2019 from 4:00 - 7:00 PM at the Mahn Family Funeral Home - Larson Chapel in Zumbrota and on Tuesday for one hour prior to the service at the church.
Lowell Alfred Mitchell was born on November 25, 1935 in Oronoco Township, Olmsted County, MN to George and Ella (Goldbeck) Mitchell. He grew up on the farm in rural Oronoco and attended country school. Lowell started farming with his parents. On October 18, 1958 he married Sylvia A. Groth at Christ Lutheran Church in Zumbrota. They lived in rural Rochester before purchasing a farm outside Mazeppa in 1962. They farmed until 1987 when he retired from farming. Lowell then started working for Webster's Sales Barn in Zumbrota and later for NAPA in Rochester, retiring in 2003. In his younger years, Lowell and Sylvia enjoyed dancing and Lowell played the accordion with several bands. He also enjoyed woodworking, fishing, hunting for deer and grouse, listening to old time music, spending time at his cabin on Upper Red Lake and spending time with grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Lowell is survived by his wife of sixty years, Sylvia; children, Daniel (Sue) Mitchell of Mantorville, Denise (Larry) Liffrig of Mazeppa, Derald (Cindy) Mitchell of Mazeppa and Daren (Sharon) Mitchell of Zumbrota; twelve grandchildren; seventeen great-grandchildren; brother, Robert (Joan) Mitchell of Rochester; sister, Alice O'Groske of Byron; sister-in-law, Ella Mitchell of Kasson and brother-in-law, Bill Jarvin of Rochester.
Lowell was preceded in death by his parents, George and Ella; great-grandson, Bennett Schafer; brothers, Donald, Richard and Glen Mitchell and sister, Dorothy Jarvin.
