Lowell E. Hinrichs

November 13, 1932 — October 2, 2015

Lowell E. Hinrichs, age 82 of Zumbrota died on Friday evening, October 2, 2015 at the Zumbrota Health Services. A memorial service will be held on Tuesday, October 6, 2015 at 11:00 AM at the United Methodist Church in Pine Island with Pastor Carolyn Westlake officiating. Burial will be in the Zumbrota Cemetery with Military Honors provided by the Stary-Yerka VFW Post # 5727 of Zumbrota. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the church.
Lowell Elroy Hinrichs was born on November 13, 1932 in rural Zumbrota to Louie and Ethel (nee Swain) Hinrichs. In the mid-1930's his family moved to the Durand, WI area. In the early 1940's Lowell returned to Zumbrota and lived with his maternal grandparents, O.E. and Emma Swain. He helped his grandparents on the farm until he married Rose Ann Hinrichs on June 6, 1953 in Pine Island. On June 11, 1953 he entered the U.S. Army. He served in Korea for one year and was honorably discharged on May 19, 1955. After his discharge, they returned to the Zumbrota area and lived on several area farms before making their home in Zumbrota. Lowell worked as a rock crusher for several area rock quarries and retired from Holm Brothers on November 1, 1997. Lowell enjoyed gardening, feeding the birds, listening to old time music, attending polka festivals, dancing the polka and going to parades.
Lowell is survived by his son, Steven (Suzette) Hinrichs of Zumbrota; two granddaughters, Jessica (Aaron) Berg of Zumbrota and Beth (William) Erickson of Goodhue; five great-grandchildren, Morgan, Addison and Emma Rose Berg, Lucas and Lauren Erickson; brother, Gary (Judy) Hinrichs of Durand and sister, Melody (Daniel) Watts of Paducah, KY. Lowell was preceded in death by his parents, Louie and Ethel; great-granddaughter, Kylie Erickson; sister, Mary Lou Biederman and brother, Jim Hinrichs.
