A memorial service for Louise Stromberg will be held Friday May 22nd at 11:00 AM at the Pine Island United Methodist Church with the Reverend Greg Strunk officiating. Inurnment will follow at Oakwood Cemetery in Rochester. Mrs. Stromberg, 86, a longtime resident of Pine Island, died Wednesday May 13, 2009 at Brewster Place, a healthcare facility, in Topeka, Kansas.
Louise Elvina Nichols was born October 25, 1922 in Douglas, Minnesota, the daughter of Lawrence and Lydia Nichols. She was a graduate of Central High School in Rochester. On November 16, 1942 she married Donald Stromberg in Rochester. The couple farmed near Eyota. Following Mr. Stromberg's death in 1967 she moved to Pine Island. She was a custodian at Pine Island Elementary School. She was a former member of the Order of the Eastern Star in Eyota.
She is survived by two daughters, Gloria (Dallas) Johnson of Rochester, and Cindy (Robert) Freeman of Topeka, Kansas; nine grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and a great-great-grandchild. She is also survived by two brothers, Marvin (Eleanor) Nichols of Genoa, Minnesota, and Doug (Jeanette) Nichols of Roscoe, Illinois.
She was preceded in death by a daughter, two brothers, and a special friend.
Visitation, with no reviewal, will be Thursday from 5:00 to 7:00 PM at Mahn Family Funeral Home ? Mahler Chapel in Pine Island. The visitation will continue one hour prior to the service at the church on Friday.
If so desired, memorials may be directed to a charity of the donor's choosing.
