Evelyn Louise Wilhelmina Matthews, 96, of Red Wing, Minnesota, died Sunday, February 5, 2006, at Red Wing Health Center. She was born December 13, 1909, in St. Paul to Paul and Clara (Schingledecker) Hoffman. She grew up in St. Paul and then moved to Ellsworth. After her schooling, she attended St. John's Nursing School. She married William Matthews on August 22, 1936. She helped on the farm, including driving the tractor in fields, raising chickens, and milking cows by hand. Louise was a member of the English Lutheran Church where she sang in the choir, was active in the women?s circles and taught Sunday school. She enjoyed knitting, cooking and spending time with grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Survivors include one daughter Marion (Louie) Nadeau of Red Wing and one son David (Hope ) Matthews of Ellsworth ; four grandchildren, Lynette Nadeau, Michael Nadeau, Desiray Joy, and Leon Matthews and eight great grandchildren, Catie, Laura, Luke and Lindsey Nadeau and Ashley, Michael, Colin Peddie, and Aden Matthews. She was preceded in death by husband and one infant son, Paul.Funeral will be 11 a.m. Saturday at English Lutheran Church in Ellsworth with Rev. Harlan Menk officiating. Burial will be in the Maple Grove Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Lynette Nadeau, Michael, Catie and Laura Nadeau, Desiray Joy, and Leon Matthews. Visitation will be two hours prior to the time of service at the church. Memorials are preferred to Habitat for Humanity or Fairview Red Wing Hospice. Mahn Family Funeral Homes, Bodelson-Mahn Chapel, is handling arrangements.
