Louise "Liz" Marie Koester, 93, of Red Wing, died on Monday, June 19, 2017 at Deer Crest Assisted Living. She was born on May 16, 1924 in Red Wing to Russell and Anna (Ogren) Dartt. She graduated from Red Wing Central High School in 1942. On August 24, 1946 she married Robert Koester and they made their home in Red Wing. She worked for the City of Red Wing for many years as a secretary in the engineering department until her retirement. Robert died on June 11, 1999. Liz was a member of the Church of St. Joseph, Leo C. Peterson American Legion Auxiliary and the Red Wing Area Seniors. Liz greatly enjoyed gardening, especially her flowers for which she received many awards, as well as traveling many places more recently to Hawaii every year. She had a ritual of attending Hostfest in Minot, ND as well as the Minnesota State Fair. Dancing at the Elks with the seniors was another loved activity for her.
She is survived by her three children, Ann (Dick) Friese of Red Wing, Bertsie (Bob) Rannenberg of St. Paul, and Jim (Nancy) Koester of Lake City; seven grandchildren; seven great grandchildren with an eighth due in July; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband and parents.
Mass of Resurrection will be 11 a.m. Friday, June 23, 2017 at the Church of St. Joseph with Father Roger Hessian presiding. Burial will be at Oakwood Cemetery. Visitation will be from 6-8 pm with an 8 p.m. rosary on Thursday, June 22, 2017 at Mahn Family Funeral Home, Bodelson Mahn Chapel and one hour prior to the service at the church.
