Louise Elvira (Roper) Kahl, 93, of Bellechester and Red Wing, went to her heavenly home on Wednesday, April 12, 2017, at her home at the Bluffs in Lake City where she had resided for the past year and a half. She was born October 15, 1923 to Wilhelmina "Minnie" and Harvey Roper in rural Red Wing in the Wells Creek area.She was baptized and confirmed at St. John's Lutheran Church in Frontenac. She graduated from Red Wing High School in 1941. On May 29, 1945 Louise was united in marriage to Willis Kahl at St. John's Lutheran Church in Red Wing. She worked as a nurse's aide at St. John Hospital and then later worked at Durkee Atwood in Red Wing. She also was a waitress but most of her life was at home, caring for her family (her four sons), gardening, traveling, playing cards and enjoying her grandkids. She was a member of St. Peter's Lutheran Church and ladies aid and was also a member of the Goodhue Lioness Club and enjoyed singing in their singing group.
She is survived by her four sons, David (Marlys) Kahl of New York Mills, Randy (Marcia) Kahl of Rochester, Daniel (Starr) Kahl of Farmington and Kevin (Cindy) Kahl of Lake City; 12 grandchildren; 26 great grandchildren; 2 great-great grandchildren; sisters, Wilhelmina Betterly of Kenyon and Hazel Dettmer of Zumbrota and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Willis in May 2010; sisters, Luella Pflaum, Esther Zemke and Olga Earney; brothers Earl, Ralph, and Harry; great-grand triplets Parker, Grace, and James in 2005; and great-grandson Kameron in 2016.
Funeral service will be 11 a.m. Tuesday, April 18, 2017 at St. Peter's Lutheran Church in Goodhue, with the Pastor Martin Weigand officiating. Burial will be at Evergreen Cemetery in Goodhue. Casketbearers will be Scott Kahl, Jeremy Kahl, Joseph Kahl, Kyle Kahl and Adam Crowson. Honorary casket bearers will be Kim (Kahl) Wendt, Melissa (Kahl) Bill, Anna (Kahl) Hayden, Jody (Kahl) Stier, Kristi (Kahl) Nemcek, Crystal (Kahl) Stern and Adrienne Crowson. Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. on Monday, April 17, 2017 at Mahn Family Funeral Home- Bodelson Mahn Chapel in Red Wing and one hour prior to the service at the church. Memorials are preferred to St. Peter's Lutheran Church or St. Peter's Lutheran Church Ladies Aid.
