Louis W. "Louie" Richardson, age 87, of Lake City, passed away Thursday, July 28th, 2011 at the Lake City Care Center. Louis Wiley Richardson was born in Peoria, IL. on March 26, 1924, to Henry and Annie (Gentry) Richardson. His family moved around when Louie was young and in 1931 he moved with his family to Minnesota. He attended country school through the 8th grade. On January 3, 1945 he entered the US Army, served in the Pacific Theatre during WWII and was honorably discharged on November 26, 1946. Louis married Helen E. Miller in Bellechester on October 7th, 1947. They made their home in Lake City and he worked at Quality Motors. In 1953 they moved to Mazeppa. In the early 1960's he became co-owner of L& R Sales and Service in Mazeppa. He returned to Lake City in 1974 where he owned and operated Richardson Auto Body until 1987 when he sold the business to his sons. Louie continued to stay active with the business until his health started failing.
Louis was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church. He was an active member in the Lake City Lion's Club where he served as District Governor of the Lions 5M1 in 1983-1984, VFW, and the American Legion. While in Mazeppa he served as a councilman and Mayor. He was a lifetime member of the Mazeppa Volunteer Fire Department. He loved to fish and hunt. He enjoyed hunting morel mushrooms, deer, bear, raccoon and turkey.
Louis is survived by his wife, Helen; children: Roberta Truman of Lake City, Fred (Jeanette) Richardson of Mazeppa, Becky (Rich) Arendt of Bellechester, Keith (Kim Baldwin) Richardson of Lake City, and Joe (Shar) Richardson of Maplewood; daughter-in-law, Cindy Richardson of Lake City; twenty three grandchildren, Larry Sanderson, Mark Andri, Josh Richardson, Bill Richardson, Steph Richardson, Nate Richardson, Nick Richardson, Emily Klapperich, Tanya Richardson, Abbey O'Connor, Michael Richardson, Jason, Jamie and Jeff Arendt, Nina Richardson, Erin Berlin, Hali Richardson, Shavon Anderson, Kyle Richardson, Danielle Richardson, Louis Richardson, Tony and Allen Richardson; sixteen great-grandchildren; three step-great-grandchildren; brother Russell(Pat) Richardson of Lake City and sister, Juanita Wolfe of Mississippi. He was preceded in death by one son, Tom; parents, Henry and Annie Richardson; sisters Pauline McDonald, Opal McEuen, Georgia McEuen, Edna Petrick, Ruby Larson, Katherine Richardson and Betty June Lundell; brothers, James, Henry, Glen, Hume, and Wilfred Richardson.
Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:30 am Tuesday, August 2, 2011 at St Mary's Catholic Church in Lake City with Father Richard Dernek officiating. Burial will be at St Mary's Cemetery. Visitation will be Monday from 4:00 - 8:00 at Mahn Family Funeral Home, Anderson-Peterson Chapel and one hour prior to service at the church.
