Louis "Lou" Franklin Owens, 66, of Red Wing, died Sunday, March 16, 2008 at his home. He was born June 8, 1941 in Wilburton, Oklahoma to Opie and Vernie (Slater) Owens. His family moved to Las Cruces, New Mexico and he graduated from high school there in 1959. After high school he joined the US Navy in October of 1959 and was stationed on the USS Piedmont. He married Farryl Shellum on Sept. 14, 1963 in Alameda, Calif., where they lived until he was honorably discharged in 1967. They moved to Red Wing, where he worked as an electrician until retiring in 2003. Farryl died November 20, 2006. He was a member of Leo C. Peterson American Legion #54 and the IBEW. He enjoyed visiting with his friends and fishing.
He is survived by 3 children, Kimberly (Mark) Ramsbacher of Hastings, Jay (Stacy) Owens of Red Wing and Farra Owens of Rochester; daughter-in-law, Krissy Owens of Red Wing; 9 grandchildren; 3 great-granddaughters; 2 sisters, Connie and Shelia Owens both of Dallas, Texas; 2 brothers, Alva Gene of Las Cruces and Roy Owens of Dallas, Texas.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife; son, Kevin; infant son, Jeffery and a brother, Stanley.
Funeral service will be 5pm Wednesday at First Lutheran Church with Reverend Carroll Marohl officiating. Burial will be at Oakwood Cemetery with military honors. Visitation will be for 2 hours prior to the service at the church. Arrangements handled by Mahn Family Funeral Home, Bodelson-Mahn Chapel.
