Lorraine Ruth Matthees, 80, a longtime Goodhue area resident passed away at Fairview Red Wing Medical Center on Monday, August 6, 2007.
She was born on January 20, 1927 to Arnold and Lillian (Borgschatz) Stechmann of Zumbrota. On September 4, 1949, she married Reynold Matthees. Reynold and Lorraine farmed in Goodhue. Lorraine was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church of rural Goodhue. Most recently, she resided at Potter Ridge Apartments in Red Wing where she enjoyed the new friends she met.
She enjoyed fishing, playing cards, reading and watching the Minnesota Twins.
She is survived by two sons, Steven (Mary) Matthees of Goodhue and Duane (Christie) Matthees of Goodhue; two daughters, Donna (Keith) Glebe of Red Wing and Susan (John) Byrne of North Branch; 11 grandchildren; 8 great-grandchildren; one sister, Marlys (Frank) Miller of Zumbrota; one brother, Howard (Eileen) Stechmann of Zumbrota; sister-in-law, Ruth Grote of Golden Valley and brother-in-law, Millard Ripley of Zumbrota.
Preceding her in death were her husband, Reynold; two sisters, JoAnn Lindhart and Renata Ripley; her grandson, Willie Matthees; sister-in-law Irene Anderson; brothers-in-law, Merlin Lindhart, Vincent Anderson and Lorenz Grote.
Visitation will be from 3- 8: p. m. Wednesday at Mahn Family Funeral Home, Larson Chapel in Zumbrota and one hour prior to the service at the church. The funeral is at 11 a. m. Thursday, August 9th at St. John's Lutheran Church in rural Goodhue with the Reverend Loren Lucht officiating. Burial will be in the St. John's Lutheran Church Cemetery.
Pallbearers are Lorraine's nephews: Mike and Jeff Ripley, Robert Miller, James Lindhart, Jonathan Stechmann, Gary and David Grote, Vincent and Dale Anderson.
