Lorraine Marie (Stee) Hartwig

Lorraine Marie (Stee) Hartwig, 93, of Northfield, MN, passed away peacefully with her loving family surrounding her. She was born in Zumbrota, MN, on February 25, 1930, to Lambert and Bertha (Lemmerman) Stee. She attended St. Olaf College in Northfield and graduated with a bachelor’s degree in English and history. She became a teacher which brought her to Buffalo, MN, where she met her future husband, Floyd M. Hartwig. They were married on August 4, 1954, and remained together until Floyd’s death in June of 2004. They began their relationship in California and eventually ended up in St. Paul, MN, where they raised their family. After raising their family, they enjoyed their retirement in both California and Wisconsin. They loved to travel and visited many foreign destinations. Lorraine had many friends and continued to make friends wherever she went. She spent her final years in Northfield, MN, surrounded by many of these friends and her family.

She is survived by her five children, Hildie (Paul) Cain, Heidi Hartwig, Fred (Cathy) Hartwig, Karen Womack, and Joanna (Steven) Salkowicz; grandchildren, Sydney Cain, Kristina Cain, Gabbie Cain, Lance Hartwig-Hayes, Megan Smith, Adam Smith, Mallory Smith, Rachel Womack, Nicole Womack, Audrey Salkowicz, and Francis Salkowicz; great-grandchildren, Oskar Hall, Armonté Hayes, Danacia Hayes, Lance Hayes, Henry Hayes, and Dion Hayes.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Floyd; siblings, Ina Evert, Thomas Stee, and Calvin Stee; and grandson, Denell J.M. Hartwig-Hayes.

Memorial service will be at 11 a.m. on Thursday, November 30, 2023, at the Mahn Family Funeral Home, Larson Chapel at 1475 Jefferson Drive, Zumbrota, MN. Visitation will be for one hour prior to the service. Burial will take place at the Northern Wisconsin Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Spooner, WI.
