Lori J. McAthie age 49 of Zumbrota died on Monday, October 25, 2010 at her home in Zumbrota. The funeral service is scheduled for Friday, October 29, 2010 at 11:00 AM at United Redeemer Lutheran Church, 560 West 3rd Street, Zumbrota with Reverend's Susan Vikstrom and Tom Isaacson co-officiating. Burial will be in Zumbrota Cemetery. Visitation is scheduled for Thursday, October 28, 2010 from 4:00 - 7:00 PM at the Mahn Family Funeral Home - Larson Chapel in Zumbrota.
Lori Jean Croon was born on October 22, 1961 in Dell Rapids, SD to Darrel and Rosetta (nee Nebben) Croon. She grew up in Colman, SD, attended Colman Public Schools and graduated from Colman High School in 1979. Lori attended and earned a degree in Fashion Design/Merchandising from Nettleton College. On December 26, 1981 she married Tim McAthie. They made their home in Emery, SD for nine years where Lori worked for the Security State Bank in Emery. In 1990 they moved to Zumbrota. Lori worked for the Fairview Clinic in Red Wing and the Pine Haven Care Center. In 1995 she earned her Registered Nursing degree. Lori then worked for the Zumbrota Area Hospice and Health Care for five years, Shorewood Senior Campus in Rochester for four years, Mayo Clinic for one year and for the past five years was Director of Nursing at Evergreen Place in Pine Island. Lori was a member of United Redeemer Lutheran Church, where she taught Sunday school and played in the bell choir. She enjoyed playing piano, flowers, taking walks, fishing, the MN Twins, attending her children's activities and spending time with her family and extended family. Lori is survived by her husband, Tim; sons, Tyler and Landon, both of Zumbrota; her mother, Rosetta Croon and brother, Lonnie Croon, both of Colman, SD; brothers and sisters-in-law, Dan and Judy McAthie of Wayzata, Steve and Mary Hofman of Madison, SD, and Dale and Sue Howlett of Watertown, SD. Lori was preceded in death by her father, Darrel Croon; mother and father-in-law, Thelma and James McAthie and her grandparents. Casketbearers are her niece and nephews, Stacy Wood, Jason McAthie, Ryan and Matt Howlett, Brad, Lucas, Nate and Micah Hofman.
