Loretta Ellen Sevareid, age 92, died peacefully Friday, December 1 at the Zumbrota Nursing Home.
Loretta was born January 28, 1920 to Lewis and Mary (Grace) Proper of Milton Township, Dodge County. She graduated from Pine Island High School in 1937. She was married to Holger Sevareid on October 27, 1941 in Cresco, Iowa. Loretta lived in Wanamingo from the time of her marriage until her move to the Zumbrota Nursing Home in 1999.
Loretta was an active member of Trinity Lutheran Church where she taught Sunday school for more than 2 decades. She loved children and worked at WanaCare day care center before retiring at the age of 76 to care for her great granddaughter. Before that she worked at Johnson's (later Berg's) grocery store in Wanamingo for many years. Loretta was also involved in volunteer work with the Ladies Auxiliary, the Boy Scouts, and Hmong and Vietnamese refugees.
Loretta is survived by 2 sons, Bruce (DeAnn) Sevareid of Wanamingo and Brian (Kim) Sevareid of Mitchell, SD, 7 grandchildren, 10 great grandchildren, and sister, Doris Stanfield. She was preceded in death by her husband Holger, son Billy, sister Irene Kier, and brother Donald Proper.
Visitation will be held 1:00 - 2:00 on Friday, December 7 at Trinity Lutheran Church in Wanamingo with the funeral service following at 2:00 p.m. Interment will be in the Trinity Church Cemetery. Memorials are preferred to Trinity Lutheran Church.
